Like many Victorian terraced properties in Norwich, this house suffered from a small, badly lit kitchen unsuitable for modern living, a lack of downstairs bathroom and no real visible connection to the rear garden. A Squared designed a stunning 7m long contemporary mono-pitch extension that spanned the entire width of the narrow, urban plot. This contained a new white gloss kitchen with contrasting dark Iroko worktops, a silver granite floor and a large electrically operated skylight above the cooking area. Beyond the kitchen is a family area with a sofa, seating and wall mounted TV. The extension then terminates with a set of full width bi-folding doors and triangular feature window that open out onto a new, formal granite paved courtyard garden with steps, pot plants, a sunken garden and a sedum roofed garden store. Elsewhere internally, the original kitchen was transformed into a luxury marble shower room with a full-height feature glass block wall that provides both natural light and privacy. Adjacent to this is an internal light-well with a maple tree and other planting that provides a green oasis in the centre of the house and allows daylight into the existing dining room and remainder of the house.
